"S19 Gufu Award: Week 9" |
THE RULES; The Gufu Award was established for pointing out the dangdumbest game moves in Survivor. Each week you have a designated number of votes you may award for Contestant Gufus! Should you notice any gufus of dangdumbness for noncontestant stuff, these are Production Gufus, a separate category with its very own designated number of votes you may award. Should you wish to exceed your designated votes, these are Honorary Gufus. So, this week you have three Contestant Gufus and Two Production gufus. Production #1: Well, darn, Russell is going to find the HII every week and play it. Maybe now they'll realize HII isn't such a good idea and do S20 without it. They probably won't but we can hope. Contestant #1: Galu, for not going with an alternate target. They knew there was an HII around somewhere, if you can't find it then flush it out.

2. Shambo for not going out of her way to make her tribe think she's with them strategically, even if she's not their BFF. Although I think she voted with them (have to watch the replay to be sure) which would be smart, she needs to make them believe she hasn't flipped.
3. Foofoos for still not being able to win a challenge. Production: For not mixing up the old tribes for RC. I have a confession to make, Bashers. I no longer hate RussHell. I did at first. He's probably the first evil one that doesn't grate on me. *looks over at Fanatics* Nah. I'm not ready to flip yet.

There were seven votes for Russell, seven Galu including Shambo, so they didn't leave her out of the loop this time. That could maybe be a Gufu since she could tell Russell he absolutely should play the HII, but smart of her to go ahead and vote along tribal lines.

Production Gufu #1 - "Random" Teams. Right.Production Gufu #2 - I've gone sliding down rock waterslides before. Do you know what happens quite frequently? The rocks rip a hole in the butt of your bathing suit if you don't wear shorts on top. Do you people <i>really</i> want to pixelate the rest of the season that badly? Contestant #1 - Mick and Shambo, for clearly never playing with one of these... 
Contestant #2 - Natalie, for not picking the team with all the Galu's, knowing that either way she'd be able to stop them from strategizing away from Foa Foa ears.

Thanks for the welcome, from you and everyone else. I actually hung around here pretty regularly a few years back (around Palau, the original All-Stars, and wherever they went the year that Tom won), but I lost the email address & password that went with my old nick (which was just "Risti"). I've been mostly lurking this season, but this episode was awesome so I had to comment.

Well, at least they'll have to find some other place to "hide" it this time. Russ has obviously figured out how they decide where to hide these things, and for that he deserves a lot of credit. Using them repeatedly and making himself the Galu vote magnet, it is keeping him in the game but it doesn't seem like a winning strategy at this point.

Contestant Gufu #2: Mick & Shambo for not knowing how to put the puzzle pieces together. As a result, Laura won Immunity. Contestant Gufu #3: RussHell, for taking a little too much time with reeling in the second bag. That put Laura in position to win Immunity. Production Gufu #1: Put the HII in some place that's hard to find next time, please.

There weren't enough of them to split their votes and still have someone else be out. They'd have needed at least eight to even make it a tie with Foa Foa staying a solid four. They had seven. Not enough.

No, they still could not get around it. Voting 3 for RussHell and 4 for another FoaFoa does not help, so long as Shambo was in the Galu's confidence. Shambo would just tell Russ and he would give the idol to the other FF. The only way Galu could have gotten around the new HII would be if they did not tell Shambo the truth about their plan. They would have to tell her they were voting Russ, but instead give at least 5 votes to another FF.

Production Gufu: Telling us that Natalie killed a rat on day 22 but have Jaison tell us he's proud of what Natalie has done over the last 23 days. We saw that only Russell, Jaison, Mick, Brett and Laura were around in camp at the time so it happened while the others were at the waterfall. As soon as we saw the line-ups we knew which one was going to lose.Contestant Gufu: Dave: 1- Erik is a juror
2- Eliminating allies is just as good as eliminating the leader.

Howsabout a rule that says "you can't find the HII until you've read a clue."Production #2: Telling everyone about the HII.4. Hey, why not lie about it? Tell us there are no more... (what are the odds that they did lie and there is no HII.4???) Contestant #1: RussHole -- go through all that about "I'm keeping this one secret", but then blab about it to Shambarinomeeno and JayShame.

They got lazy. Russ doesn't have to follow clues to find where to dig it up, he doesn't have to trek back and forth at exile following the path, he doesn't even have to break apart the set decorations at camp. All he had to figure out was what were good landmarks. Piece of cake.

RussHell talked about his strategy in regards to trying to find the HII to the producers before they were even taken to the locations.
And maybe someone at production figured RussHell was going to be a player and either loved or hated and decided to hide the idols easily on purpose?

For all we know others have searched for HIIs in previous seasons without clues but failed to find them because the idols either weren't at camp or were buried or something (one of the ones James had was built into a "set decoration" he had to dismantle). So, yeah, they may have had an idea about making them easier to find this season. I still say Russell got lucky in that regard.
